About Us

If you are interested in buying an Electric Bicycle or converting your existing bike you are in the right place. Sydney Electric Bikes has the widest range of Ebikes on offer in Australia. We were one of the first Ebike shops in Australia and our bikes are well known. Since 2009 SEB has been selling Ebikes to thousands of customers around the country.

We are a dedicated Ebike shop, not a typical bicycle shop that's dabbling in electric bikes.

We live and breathe electric bikes and will do everything we can to make your new Ebike the best possible experience.

We have the backup and experience to look after you into the future. When you buy an electric bike from SEB you are paying for a quality bike with a rock solid warranty and quality service. Not only are you less likely to encounter problems with your Ebike but you have a physical shop to come to if you have any service needs.

None of our staff work on commission like some other bike shops so you won’t feel pressured to buy from us. You can take all the time you need to try as many bikes as you like at our stores. Just don’t be in a rush - we have a lot of bikes to try!

All our bikes come with a first free service within the first 500km. If you are willing and able we will teach you how to adjust your own brakes saving you time and money into the future.  Sweet!

A little back story from Jake from the Pyrmont Store

I grew up in Sydney and from an early age I rode a bike to get around my neighbourhood. Riding to high school and uni on a bike was cheap and quick. After high school two friends and I rode to Byron Bay, the absolute best road trip imaginable.

I got my first van after uni, had a couple of kids and my entire transport revolved around the van. My beloved Giant Yukon was given away to Vinnies.

After running a Post Production Film company in Sydney for ten years I decided to take a u-turn and get back to my love of all things on two wheels. I had lost touch with my friendly steed and sitting in a dark room editing was putting on the kilos fast.

An unlikely friend.
During a holiday in Europe in 2009, at the far south west tip of Portugal, I hired an "electric bike" hoping to ride off to a famous lighthouse only accessible by bike. I had no idea what an Ebike was but set off with limited expectations.
Super strong winds swept up the ocean cliffs, but they were no match for my new best friend the Ebike. I zipped to the lighthouse in no time and couldn't believe how fun it was to be back on a bike after years of car use.

SEB is born. One thing lead to another until I decided to open an electric bike shop so that Sydney could benefit from this exciting new form of transport. I really believe the Ebike is the missing link in transport and is set to take the world by storm. So far its looking pretty good. I know I'm feeling fitter than ever before and love to see more and more of my customers out on the road tearing it up, leaving the traffic in the dust.....Get an ebike, it will change your life!

A little backstory from Andy our manager and co-owner at our Engadine store.

After five years working as a bicycle messenger in both London and Sydney I was looking to do something different don’t get me wrong it’s a great job but at the end of the day you were just picking up and delivering envelopes and parcels it’s not that mentally challenging an old rugby mate of mine had a bike shop in Manly and he gave me a start there in the year 2000.

I worked at another three Sydney bike shops including the infamous city bike depot and was between jobs back in the year 2016 and had a bit of time up my sleeve to think about I wanted to do living in Helensburgh. I caught the train to Bondi Junction to see if that was viable commute and did the walk all the way down to the CBD stopping in bike shops along the way from memory it was August and most of the shops are very quiet and to be frank I thought some of the sales people I dealt with were wankers. Sure I had a couple of good experiences but in general I was questioning the industry I working at the time I was also doing some side gigs with a company called Bikewise supplying free check and tunes for the City of Sydney for people riding their bikes to work that was very rewarding also teaching three hour maintenance courses.

So on that fateful day I went up to the CBD to check out the industry I also thought hey what about that Ebike guy over in Pyrmont, what’s he up to? As I mentioned most of the shops I walked into were very quiet. I walked into SEB and I could not even get to talk to Jake it was that busy, I could not believe what I was seeing. I started doing a few shifts in the workshop for Jake and it quickly became obvious to me the massive potential for Ebikes for both commuter cyclists and leisure riders.

After three years running the workshop in Pyrmont for Jake we opened up in Engadine and I still come across many customers from my days of working around the Shire. As for the future now that Covid seems to be on the back burner we can start doing shop rides again, I love mountain biking it’s one of the reasons I’ve moved to Helensburgh originally. It’s also been great to be involved with the cargo bike seen in the Northern Illawarra that really is a green transport revolution.

Technology wise I’m looking forward to seeing the first bikes with a mid drive motor and gearbox combined to me that’s the logical next step forward also mountain bikes with big capacity batteries there really is a market for multi day off-road touring I’m excited to see where this goes!

A little backstory from Scott our manager and co-owner at our Narrabeen store.

“Sunday morning rides with the family in Avalon on Sydney’s Northern Beaches to fetch croissants led to riding a bike to primary school and the love of biking stuck.

Later on in life, after a stint working in media in London, England I rode my hybrid mountain home from London to Sydney via Europe, Middle East, India, South East Asia and top to bottom across Australia. Epic trip to day the least!

I have since ridden Perth to Sydney on a separate biking adventure and then saw the opportunity to promote adventure and active transport by getting people on electric bikes with Sydney Electric Bikes.”
